Can you believe it’s finally spring? The birds are chirping, the flowers are blooming, and it’s time to shake off the winter blues and embrace all the joys this season has to offer. As a mom of three energetic and crazy kiddos, I know how important it is to make the most of this time together. That’s why I’ve put together the ultimate Springtime Family Bucket List – packed with activities guaranteed to bring smiles to your little ones’ faces and create memories that will last a lifetime.
Have a Picnic in the Park
Pack a basket full of sandwiches, snacks, and sweet treats, and head to your favorite park for a picnic in the sunshine. Don’t forget to bring along a frisbee or soccer ball for some post-picnic playtime!
Plant a Seed, Watch it Grow
Get the whole family involved in planting some seeds, whether it’s in a pot on your balcony or a vegetable patch in your backyard. Watching those tiny sprouts grow into something delicious (or beautiful!) is pure magic for kids. Whats more, as adults we know that seeds need specific things to grow – water, sunlight, and proper soil. This is a great teaching moment for your kids! Assigning watering duties to them (with adult supervision, of course!) helps them understand the importance of these elements and teaches them the routine of caring for a living thing.
Dig in the Dirt
Fill a plastic bin or even a small patch of your backyard with some dirt (store-bought potting mix works too!). Let the kids go wild with cups, spoons, and small toys. They can bury treasures, make mud pies, or simply feel the cool earth between their fingers. This is an amazing sensory activity that kids young and old will love!
Visit a Local Farm
Springtime means baby animals, fresh produce, and endless fun at the farm! Take a day trip to a local farm or petting zoo where your kids can interact with animals, go on hayrides, and more! It’s a hands-on learning experience they’ll love.
Fly a Kite
Let’s go fly a kite, up to the highest height! Head to a nearby park or beach on a windy day and let your kids’ imaginations soar as they launch their kites into the sky. It’s a classic springtime activity that never gets old!
Create Sidewalk Chalk Masterpieces
Break out the sidewalk chalk and let your kids’ creativity run wild! Whether they’re drawing hopscotch grids, or simply scribbling colorful doodles, sidewalk chalk art is a surefire way to keep them entertained for hours. Bonus points for a giant Twister board!
Take a Bike Ride
Dust off those bicycles and hit the trails for a family bike ride. Whether you’re exploring your own neighborhood or venturing out to a nearby nature reserve or park, biking is a great way to get some exercise while enjoying the beauty of springtime.
Go on a Scavenger Hunt
Spring is the perfect time to explore the great outdoors, even if that means taking a walk around your neighborhood LOL. Grab a list of items – think flowers, birds, and bugs – and set out on an outdoor spring time scavenger hunt in your neighborhood or local park. Trust me, the kids will love searching for treasures and checking off their finds!
Guess what!! I created a really freaking awesome Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Checklist to use with your kids now and forever! Go ahead and download it stat (click here to do that) because I want to give it to you for free!! I know you’ll love it!
Create Nature Art
Head outside to gather natural materials like leaves, flowers, and sticks, and then bring them back in the house – or bring some paper and glue outside – for a fun art project! Encourage your kids to create beautiful nature art masterpieces!! The possibilities of what they can make are endless! Hang the final products on a wall in the basement ;)
Have a Backyard Campout
Pitch a tent, roast marshmallows over a campfire (or a backyard fire pit), and spend the night under the stars right in your own backyard. It’s a memorable way to experience the great outdoors without leaving home.
Create a Family Time Capsule
Gather items that represent your family’s current interests, hobbies, and memories, then bury them in a time capsule in your backyard. Set a date to unearth the capsule in the future and reminisce about all the fun times you had together. SO COOL, right?!
Go Berry Picking
Find a local farm and head out for a day of strawberry picking. There’s nothing quite like fresh-picked berries, and then later, you can turn them into a delicious dessert together!
Bake a Springtime Treat on a Rainy day
Rainy days are perfect for baking! Whip up a batch of flower-shaped cookies, a butterfly cake, or a batch of colorful cupcakes. Let the kids help with the decorating for an extra special treat.
Make Your Own Lemonade Stand
Set up a lemonade stand and let the kids be in charge (with a little adult supervision, of course!). This is a great way to teach them about business and responsibility, all while having some refreshing fun.
Spring Themed Potluck
If you like hosting friends and family at your house, plan a potluck with a springtime twist. Think colorful salads, deviled eggs, all the in-season fruit, and spring time desserts.
Visit a Butterfly Conservatory
Immerse yourselves in a world of fluttering beauty at a butterfly conservatory. Learn about different butterfly species and watch them flit from flower to flower.
Take a Long Family Walk
Sometimes the simplest activities are the best. Lace up your walking shoes and head out for a long family walk. Explore your neighborhood, discover a new park, or simply wander aimlessly. The fresh air, gentle exercise, and quality family time are the perfect ingredients for creating happy memories. Let the kids point out interesting things they see along the way, tell stories about your day, or simply enjoy the each other’s company as you get your steps in!
Remember, mamas, the key to a successful Spring Bucket List is to keep it fun and flexible. Let the kids have some input on the activities, and don’t be afraid to do things out of your comfort zone! Obviously the most important thing is to create happy memories together as a family and that you will. I can’t wait to hear if you use any of these ideas!!
Don’t forget to download that Outdoor Scavenger Hunt Checklist that I made just for you!! There is a color version PDF and a black and white version PDF, depending on your printing capabilities and needs!
