MOMMING – it’s hard! More days than not I wake up tired, crabby and wish I could stay in my pajamas all day long. Who can relate to that? {can I assume most of you??!} I totally push myself to get dressed in the morning because the truth is, that I know my confidence and outgoing personality is directly related to how I look on any given day {ok – my current morning chai tea addiction helps too!}. If I shower and get dressed in cute clothes – you better believe I’m going to have a better day. It’s just how it works and once I realized this, I began acting on it. I bet you’re wondering where I’m going with this so keep reading to hear me out…
A year ago, I heard of this new local clothing store that opened in Glenview called Apricot Lane and the first time I walked in, it was LOVE. AT. FIRST. SIGHT. Not a joke – I immediately spotted like 15 things I wanted off the racks! Then, I looked at the price tags and I was like – OMG I CAN AFFORD THIS!!!!! I have been shopping at Apricot Lane for the cutest sweaters, jewelry, and on-trend everrrrything since I stepped foot inside and their merchandise keeps getting better and better. I’m obsessed with it!!!
Turns out, I’m pretty obsessed with Rachel, the owner, as well. She asked if I would come in for a style session and while that’s usually not my thing, I happily obliged. After all – it’s fun to see how others might put together outfits for you, am I right?! In the end, I learned some new tips and also realized that having someone help me shop wasn’t as scary as I imagined it to be. On the contrary, I kind of loved it!!!!
While I was there, I decided to interview Rachel and ask her a few questions about Apricot Lane, her team, the store, and what they do. So, before I share more on my styling session, let’s dive into the good stuff from Rachel:
What is a typical day like for you and your team?
Everything is super relaxed and fun. We all work together on daily tasks such as merchandising the store, receiving new merchandise, photographing for social media and of course our top priority is always helping style our customers.
What sets your store apart from others where moms might shop?
We are a very low key no pressure environment. We are also super honest. We want our customers to feel good in what they buy and come back to shop with us. We also help style our moms from head to toe. We like to make it easy for our customers to put together an outfit as we know how precious time is.
How do you keep your store’s inventory fresh and up to date?
I buy on a daily basis. I follow fashion bloggers, New York Fashion, and am constantly on pinterest. I use this knowledge to buy the hottest trends while also being realistic with what our customer will want. We only get 6 of an item, so things go fast. It allows us to turn merchandise quickly. You can come in to our store everyday and it will look new and fresh.
Best style tip for the everyday mom?
What are a few must-have items that all moms need right now?
All moms need a CC beanie. Not only are the hats super fashionable, they keep you warm and hide your dirty hair:) Also every mom should have a great skinny jean that they can wear out with the girls or on a date with the hubby. Throw that on with a must have leather jacket and you are good to go.
What is one thing you think moms in the community should know about Apricot Lane that they may not be aware of?

Leggings can be dressy. These have a little textured sheen to them which definitely gives them an edge and makes them even a little fancy! BONUS SECRET: backpacks are in and now!!!

Sweaters and sweatshirts are super easy to throw on and they don’t have to be boring. This one has some fun added fabric detail and ruffles.
