If you have followed me on Instagram for a while, you have probably heard me talk about this smoothie more than once. It is creamy, fruity, easy to make and one of those breakfasts I genuinely look forward to.
The best part is that it takes about five minutes and uses ingredients I usually keep on hand. Isaiah loves it, the kids will happily steal sips, and I have made it so many times that I could probably blend it in my sleep.
Why This Green Smoothie Became a Family Favorite
Isaiah first started drinking this smoothie after working with Ariella, a licensed dietitian who shared the original recipe with us. I tasted his, immediately wanted my own, and the rest is history. Ariella gave me permission to share it here, along with the two little changes we make at home.

What Is in This Healthy Green Smoothie Recipe?
This healthy green smoothie recipe is made with frozen banana, blueberries, unsweetened almond milk, spinach, ground flaxseed and cinnamon. Collagen peptides are optional, and a couple of ice cubes help make everything extra cold and creamy.
- Frozen banana: This gives the smoothie its creamy texture and natural sweetness.
- Blueberries: Fresh or frozen both work.
- Unsweetened almond milk: This is the milk we use and have tested.
- Fresh spinach: Two handfuls blend right into the fruit.
- Ground flaxseed and cinnamon: Two easy pantry add-ins.
- Collagen peptides: Completely optional. Follow the directions on the product you use.

The Two Changes We Make
First, I use a frozen banana instead of a fresh one because it makes the smoothie colder and creamier. Second, I leave out the MCT oil from Ariella’s original version because it did not agree with Isaiah’s stomach. That is it. The rest stays wonderfully simple.
How to Make the Smoothest Green Smoothie
My best tip is to blend the almond milk and spinach first. Once the spinach is smooth, add the frozen banana, blueberries, flaxseed, cinnamon, optional collagen and ice. This helps prevent little leafy pieces from hanging around in the finished smoothie.
If your blender needs help, add another small splash of almond milk. Blend until everything is completely creamy, pour it into your favorite glass and enjoy it right away.

Green Smoothie Questions
Can I use a fresh banana?
Yes. A fresh banana works, but I would add a little extra ice so the smoothie stays cold and thick.
Can you taste the spinach?
We find the spinach flavor very mild once it is blended with the banana and blueberries. Everyone’s taste is different, so you can always start with one handful and add more next time.
Is collagen required?
No. The smoothie is delicious without it. If you choose to add collagen peptides, use the serving directions from your specific brand.
Can I use another kind of milk?
Most likely, yes. We make this version with unsweetened almond milk, but another milk you already enjoy should give you a similar result. You may need to adjust the amount slightly for your preferred consistency.
A Five-Minute Breakfast or Snack I Actually Look Forward To
This is often the first thing I have in the morning, but it also makes an easy afternoon snack when I want something quick. It tastes fresh, fills me up and does not require a sink full of dishes. That is a win in my book.
