Visit the Edgartown Lighthouse

No trip to Martha’s Vineyard is complete without visiting the iconic Edgartown Lighthouse. This historic landmark offers breathtaking views and is the perfect spot for memorable photos. The surrounding beach is ideal for a leisurely stroll or simply soaking in the serene beauty of the area. Bring a book and park yourself on a bench nearby for a relaxing early morning or afternoon! Exploring this lighthouse is a must!

Fun fact: the first time I went to Martha’s Vineyard, I was there for one of my close friend’s weddings and I was a bridesmaid in the wedding party. Her ceremony took place at the Edgartown Lighthouse and it was truly a breathtaking scene!

Rent a Boat and Cruise through the Harbor

Get out on the water and enjoy the beauty of Martha’s Vineyard from a different perspective. Renting a sailboat, kayak, or even a motor boat, is an awesome way to spend a hot, sunny day. There are tons of rental companies who offer all different water activities and fun. For a more luxurious experience, consider hiring a captain or booking a private charter such as a sunset cruise to ensure you get to unwind and enjoy the stunning views of the island.

Bike Around the Island

Martha’s Vineyard is incredibly bike-friendly, with numerous scenic trails that cater to all levels. Rent bikes in Edgartown and ask the bike rental company for a good route depending on your bike goals for the day! The island’s relatively flat terrain makes for an enjoyable, easy ride. When I think about stuff to do in Martha’s Vineyard, my mind immediately thinks of biking the incredible island and taking in the scene!!

Go Shopping and Eat on the Water

No trip to Martha’s Vineyard is complete without indulging in some retail therapy and delicious cuisine. Explore the vibrant shopping scene, from boutique shops to local artisans. You’ll come across the first Vineyard Vines clothing store, which is super fun to shop in! Pro tip: buy something from Lululemon and ask for it to be stamped with their Martha’s Vineyard logo. It makes for the most fun memorabilia! Treat yourself to a fresh seafood feast at a waterfront restaurant, or savor a casual lunch at one of the many charming cafés. If you wanted to eat and shop during your entire trip, you could do just that! There are some really incredible stores that carry merchandise you don’t see everywhere else as well as some pretty epic restaurants that serve only the most fresh and delicious fare!

Granted we haven’t eaten at nearly the majority of places that the island offers, but some of our fave restaurants that we ate at included Rosewater and Among the Flowers in Edgartown for breakfast or brunch, Behind the Bookstore and Pelican Club in Edgartown for lunch or dinner and great drinks, Fat Ronnie’s Burger Bar in Oak Bluffs for the most delicious lobster roll for lunch, Charlotte Inn in Edgartown for a special occasion dinner, and the Atlantic Fish and Chop House in Edgartown, for a waterfront dining experience with all the fresh seafood you could imagine, is elite!

In addition, there are so many adorable ice cream shops that are open as late as midnight (!!!) and if you like fudge, Murdick’s Fudge, is not to be missed!! Also, the coffee shops are endless! We tried a bunch and loved Toccopuro Coffee the most!

Escape to Chappaquiddick Island for a Day at the Beach via the Chappy Ferry

For a truly unique experience, take the Chappy Ferry from Edgartown to Chappaquiddick Island. This short (read: less than 2 minute) ferry ride feels like a true step back in time. Once there, you’ll quickly realize there really is no life on the island aside from homes and a private country club. However, you can head to the beach for a day of sun and sand. The tranquil setting of Chappaquiddick Island offers a peaceful retreat away from the busier parts of Martha’s Vineyard! Just don’t forget to take the Chappy Ferry back to MV before midnight otherwise you’ll be stuck there!!

Oak Bluffs is home to Flying Horses: America’s Oldest Carousel!! It’s very cool and fun to see! Next time we travel to MV with the kids, we are taking them there to ride the carousel!

There is so much stuff to do in Martha’s Vineyard!

It’s a 10/10 trip! From historic lighthouses to serene beach escapes (honorable mention to South Beach, which is a popular beach that’s great for swimming, sunbathing, and picnicking. The waves can be strong, making it a favorite spot for surfers), there’s no shortage of stuff to do in Martha’s Vineyard!! And if I’m being honest, these five activities are just the beginning of what this chic, iconic island has to offer. There is so much stuff to do in Martha’s Vineyard! Whether you’re sailing in the harbor or biking through scenic trails, this New England island paradise is sure to leave you with memories that will last a lifetime!! Book the trip – you won’t regret it!!
